Start of a DP MX-5 (originally posted 5/8/10)

I'm building an '06 MX-5 for the SCCA class of DP for autocross purposes.

A little background on car. We purchased it for a good price because of a couple of things. First off, the car had been totalled by the insurance company because of what appears to be a "hit while parked" accident. Basically it looks like a big truck misjudged it's turning radius and ran into the car. The damage was to the back of the driver's door as well as the rear quarter panel on that side. This impact in turn ripped the soft top. The car was still driveable, but after cutting out a big hole in the quarter panel, the insurance company decided to total the car, probably due to the fact that the car had 95,000 miles on it.

So, it was sold at auction to a guy that intended to just take some parts off of it and put it back up for auction. He was fixing another car that had ran over a curb and needed the parts that were destroyed. He needed the front subframe and the right front suspension.

I'll get into more details later, but today was a big milestone. Did I tell you this car was an automatic? Obviously not the right way to go on a race car. So, today the automatic came out. I still have a 5 speed manual, driveshaft, and clutch sitting around from my previous autocross MX-5, so those will be going in soon.
